About Us The mission of the Sankofa Cultural Arts & Business Center is to enhance the knowledge and appreciation of African and African-American art, history, and culture through classes, activities, and special events. The center focuses on themes promoting positive African-American experiences to help members of the community succeed in all areas of life.
The Sankofa Cultural Arts Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit arts and cultural organization dedicated to learning, preserving and teaching the richness and beauty of African culture through dance, music, storytelling and the visual arts.
It was founded in 2006 by Malcolm and Stacia Crawford in the heart of the Chicago Avenue business district in Chicago 's west side Austin community.
Sankofa means reaching back…to move forward.
It is our goal to uplift African-Americans in the Greater Chicago area by teaching them their history, helping them to develop a sense of pride in themselves and their heritage, and setting positive goals for their future.
